THE
CancerPunk
STORY
I'm an expert at watching helplessly as people I love die of cancer. I lost my younger sister, then my wife and father died from cancer within weeks of each other. I need a way to fight back, to get revenge and settle the score.

-------
I manage boxers, but I never fought. I've handled world champions who performed at the highest level, but I never saw anyone fight like Bobbie. She was brave and courageous, like I know so many millions of others are when confronting the world's most lethal and enduring killer in cancer.
Bobbie was the proverbial "Love of a Lifetime" but we got robbed of that lifetime by cancer. No matter how many times the Big C knocked her down, Bobbie was all heart & got up stronger to fight again. Her kindness, her humor, her 3 AM wisdom when her days were fading. She gave everything until there was nothing more to give, but then she asked me to give her something, a final promise that her life, our loss, our love would live on in the battle against cancer. Her every day selfless acts of giving & compassion could be reborn in a more unique mission.
Knowing I must creatively challenge Congress to fight a real War on Cancer became my salvation, my life mission, my path out of darkness. My faith never faltered, but strategy always seemed to change. Years flew by, but every single day I polished my plan, churned over the facts. I kept firm to my commitment to her, yet constantly wondered about my hesitation.
But then I realized, go with what you know, promote it like a fight, my championship battle to prepare for, CancerPunk vs. Congress.
On paper, an obvious mismatch of epic proportions. I'm a nobody with no money, no power & no organization. Surely we have a great goal, but much more talented & intelligent people couldn't convince Congress on a number of critical issues like climate change, healthcare & gun control.
But we can beat Congress and make them significantly increase cancer research funding because I believe people will help, with ideas, with energy, with creative street theater, ever constantly bringing up the facts by pounding home the numbers. If we can build a KOcancerMOVEMENT by connecting cancer wounded worldwide, then Congress will have no choice but to commit to fighting a genuine WAR ON CANCER.
If we can gain that victory, it will be then that over 9-million Americans lives lost to cancer since 9/11will have their full power & meaning,.
